A trusted guardian has anonymously stood watch over these fields, witnessing the annual cycle of planting, growing and harvesting.
Since the beginning of time this guardian had no name, known commonly throughout the world as a scarecrow, yet has been as much a fixture in those fields as any tree or fence post. Local folks walk by day after day, blindly unimpressed by the unwavering sunup-to-sundown devotion in protecting the crops as only a scarecrow could. Undoubtedly, there has always been an uneasy dance between scarecrows and the intelligent crows they are meant to intimidate.

Jackstraw, a new NFT project on the Cardano blockchain completed minting on March 20, 2023. The project was designed to introduce a fresh and exciting new offering to the NFT space. ABOUT THE ARTIST
Anthony Freda is an American painter, illustrator, and teacher. His work regularly appears in Communication Arts, American Illustration, and most recently in a book titled, "The 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide," published by Luerzer's Archive. Freda's work was also shown prominently throughout a book published in 2008 by well-known animal rights activist Karen Dawn, whose column "Dawnwatch" goes out to fans across the country each week. The book, titled "Thanking the Monkey: Rethinking the Way We Treat Animals," was published by HarperCollins.
Other recent appearances of Freda's work were in national ad campaigns by Converse, Mini Cooper, and Rockport Shoe Company. Freda has often served as a judge for The Society of Illustrators annual competition held in New York City and his work has appeared in several volumes of the society's annual publication highlighting the best of American illustration.
In 2006 The Village Voice commissioned Freda to illustrate a story about people who challenge the official 9/11 narrative; the artwork has since become part of the permanent collection of the US National September 11 Museum and Memorial in New York, NY. An interview was conducted by the museum's curators as part of the acceptance process and the meeting was documented by filmmaker John Massaria.
